Dem. Steve Lebsock expelled from Colorado House

The Colorado House Friday, March 2, took the once-in-a century vote to expel Democratic Rep. Steve Lebsock of Thornton after an independent investigation found credible allegations made by five women of sexual harassment that took place between 2015-2017.
The first allegation against Lebsock, a native of Sterling, came last November from fellow Democrat Rep. Faith Winter of Westminster, who said Lebsock tried to get her to go home with him for sex after an end-of-session party in May 2016.
Another allegation, from a former legislative aide for another lawmaker, said Lebsock unbuttoned the top button of her blouse at a Young Democrats Party in March 2015. Lebsock’s now-ex-wife produced a calendar that showed he had come home that day at 1:30 p.m. and spent the rest of the day at home.
However, the credibility of that calendar was called into question by an investigator from the Employers Council, which investigates harassment complaints in the workplace. In her report, the investigator said she was denied access to the original, which would have allowed her to analyze handwriting, ink color and consistency.
Thursday, however, another calendar came to light that disputes the Lebsock calendar. According to Colorado Politics, a calendar for an employee at the Department of Agriculture showed Lebsock was in a meeting with at least three people, including a lobbyist and a member of the governor’s staff, until around 3 p.m. Lebsock sent an email to those in attendance, acknowledging the meeting took place, around 3:13 p.m.
Lebsock responded that he couldn’t remember every meeting he was in three years ago and stood by the claim of his ex-wife’s calendar that he was at home.
