Diabetes webinar is Tuesday

A diabetes webinar is being offered Tuesday, Sept. 22, from noon-1 p.m. It is sponsored by Colorado State University Extension in partnership with the Northeast Colorado Diabetes Coalition.

Diabetes and heart disease are often linked together.  Adults with diabetes have a two-to-four-time higher risk of developing heart disease or stroke than people without diabetes. Diabetes is also linked to a build-up of plaque throughout the body.

Part of this risk is related to too much glucose in the blood that damages nerves and blood vessels. Another factor at play is people with diabetes tend to have inflammation in the lining of their arteries that can interfere with their normal functions and make them more vulnerable to the buildup of cholesterol and other substances and a greater tendency for blood cells to clump together.
