EMS golf tourney Aug. 11
Holyoke Emergency Medical Services will be hosting a golf tournament at the Holyoke Golf Club on Saturday, Aug. 11, to raise money for a new active-shooter alert system.
Guard911 is a smartphone application that alerts law enforcement to potential shootings. The app allows users to report incidents, view nearby alerts and dial 911.
Money raised by the tourney will go toward installing Guard911 systems at Melissa Memorial Hospital and Holyoke School District schools.
An ambulance siren will signal the start of the tourney at 8 a.m. Golfing is expected to continue until roughly 2 p.m., when the results of a silent auction will be announced, Holyoke EMS director Brady Ring said.
Items in the silent auction will include a 40-foot putt on the 9th green, with the chance to win a $5,000 cash prize donated by Happy Jacks Barbeque.
