Fire Dist. mill levy approved

Official election results for the Holyoke Fire Protection District mill levy election were released this week, showing that the mill levy increase was approved in a slim 205-202 vote.
Computer malfunction and then an eight-day delay required for receiving voter signature verification on a handful of ballots left the decision in limbo in the close election question that was on the Nov. 7 ballot.
Phillips County Clerk and Recorder Beth Zilla reported Monday morning, Nov. 20, that the vote was audited and the election canvassed Saturday, Nov. 18, to make the results official.
An increase of one vote each in the Holyoke School District Re-1J board member election was noted from the unofficial results reported in the Nov. 9 edition of The Holyoke Enterprise.
Those elected to the Holyoke School Board were Jon Kleve with 721 votes, Patricia Wiebers 682 and Trampas Hutches 444. Candidate Sue Razo garnered 433 votes.
A mill levy override measure for Haxtun School District and a sales tax increase proposal for the Town of Haxtun were both successful in this year’s election.
A total of 1,427 votes were cast in the Nov. 7 election for a voter turnout of 44.75 percent, according to Zilla.
