First Friday features Sarah Oliver Whitney’s story

The First Friday event at Prairie Winds Art Center on Sept. 6 will feature a living history presentation by Caryl Harvey. Harvey will share the story of Sarah Oliver Whitney, an unwilling traveler on the Oregon Trail. It was Sarah’s husband Henry who had “trail fever,” but the times and customs demanded that Sarah make the 2,000 mile trip as well. With a bit of humor, a twinge or two of arthritis, and more than a little courage, Sarah walked the trail in 1859 and “lives” to tell her story. Join Sarah as she relates the tale of her amazing adventure. The program begins at 7 p.m. Arrive early and enjoy refreshments while viewing the art currently displayed in the gallery.
