Food bank sees record number of people in drive-thru service

Food Bank of the Rockies’ monthly distribution in Phillips County saw a record number of people in attendance Wednesday, April 1, at the Haxtun Community Center. Volunteers, pictured above, unpack boxes so that the items are ready for the drive-thru service. Local coordinator Kathy Secrist said the goal is to provide extra fruit, vegetables and protein that people may not otherwise be getting. A wide variety of items are distributed to those who attend. Secrist said anyone can receive food — there are very few restrictions. The food bank doesn’t verify income; it just requires basic information such as name, address, phone number and number of people in the household. The service is available in Phillips County the first Wednesday of every month.
