Fuesz’s involvement with sheep leads to ‘Friend of 4-H’ honor
Denean Fuesz has been a mentor to many market and breeding sheep project members. She was recognized for her commitment Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Phillips County 4-H Achievement Program when she was named “2017 Friend of 4-H.”
“Not only has she taught members about raising sheep, but she encourages a strong work ethic and instills many life skills in her mentees,” said 4-H member Rebecca Owens when announcing the Friend of 4-H honor.
At least a dozen lambs in Fuesz’s sheep pen are tagged with the name of 4-H members, as they will become the 4-H members’ sheep projects.
“Not only does she help 4-H members get their projects started, she is also willing to house and help care for lambs that belong to members who live in town or who don’t have access to livestock facilities,” added Owens.
Throughout the summer, Fuesz hosts project work nights at her home to help guide 4-H members in their projects. She’s been working with 4-H and FFA members for at least 18 years and was recognized for her ongoing support.
To kick off Sunday’s program, Layna and Elia Wear presented the American and 4-H flags and led the pledges.
4-H member recognition at the annual achievement program included the presentation of the “I Dare You” leadership award to Kaitlyn Kent. It was presented by Kindra Plumb, 4-H youth development associate, and sponsored by Rick and Kathy Haynes.
