Goldenstein donates hair again

Melissa Goldenstein had no idea why her 9-year-old daughter Emy, who will be a third-grader at Holyoke Elementary this fall, kept refusing to get a haircut.
The mystery was solved when Emy finally requested an appointment at a hair salon — not the suggested haircut from grandma — so that her 10 inches of hair could be donated to Locks of Love.
Locks of Love is a public nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada.
“She was so excited to donate it again,” said Goldenstein. Emy first donated her hair two years ago at the age of 7, lopping off nine and a half inches at that time.
“Both times she came up with the idea and asked for it herself,” said Goldenstein. “I’m really proud of her. She knows it’s for a good reason.”
Emy’s charitable haircut was Wednesday, July 19, at Strandz in Holyoke. Her mother said Emy plans to donate again in the future.
