Golf, dinner benefit set for Dep. Hickox

Phillips County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado law enforcement community are pulling together to help one of their own, Deputy Jeff Hickox, who is currently fighting cancer.
The Sept. 8 benefit for Hickox will include an 8 a.m. goofy golf tournament, a 6 p.m. pig roast dinner catered by Happy Jacks Barbeque and a live auction.
Goofy golf puts miniature golf obstacles on a regulation golf course. Golfers also perform novelty challenges, like stuffing their mouth with powdered donuts and spinning around a baseball bat before teeing off, or taking pool shots with a police baton. Prizes for the tournament include free rounds of golf and hotel stays.
After the tournament, a dinner and auction will be held at the Phillips County Event Center. Free will donations will be accepted for the dinner.
Auction items include an AR-15 carbine, Legacy Escort AIMGUARD 12-gauge shotgun, virtual reality headset, headphones, crockpot, stainless steel Broncos firepit, smoker, tabletop electric grill and many other items.
Undersheriff JR Meyers also mentioned that the benefit fund has received many cash donations from across the country, including California.
“Everyone’s really getting behind it, and I can’t explain how happy we are to get this kind of support,” he said.
