Hickenlooper wins Democratic primary for US Senate

In the June 30 primary election, Colorado favored John Hickenlooper over Andrew Romanoff 58.8% to 41.2% for the Democratic nomination for the general election ballot for the U.S. Senate.

The Phillips County vote in the Democratic primary also favored Hickenlooper in a wider margin, 64.4% to 35.6%, according to unofficial results on election night.

On the Libertarian Party primary ballot for U.S. Senate, Raymon Anthony Doane earned the spot on the November ballot over Gaylon Kent, 62.7% to 37.3%. In Phillips County, the Libertarian candidate vote was split 1-1.

In the Nov. 3 general election, Hickenlooper, Doane and Republican incumbent Cory Gardner will vie for the Senate post. Gardner was unchallenged in last week’s primary.

There were no other contested races on this year’s primary ballot in Phillips County.

In November, Republican incumbent Ken Buck will face Democratic challenger Ike McCorkle for U.S. Representative in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.

Four other Republican candidates will be uncontested in their races in November.

They include incumbent Rod Pelton for Colorado House District 65; Travis Sides, district attorney in the 13th Judicial District; Garold Roberts, Phillips County commissioner, District 2; and Tom Timm, Phillips County commissioner, District 3.
