Imperial, Nebraska, residents were interrupted by screaming and frantic behavior last week.
Juan Carlos Trejo, 34, of Holyoke was arrested on Court Street between Tenth and Eleventh streets around 11 p.m. on Jan. 15.
Imperial Police Department Officer Daniel Morales was on patrol near Twelfth and Broadway that night when he heard screaming.
Morales followed the screams to find Trejo “banging” on doors along Court Street.
“When I got closer it sounded like he was saying ‘help me,’” Morales said.
Morales saw a knife in the front yard nearby. “It was within his access, but it’s hard to prove if it was his,”  he added.
One witness to the door banging said, “I almost went through the roof it was so loud.”
That witness called 911, not knowing Morales was outside and had already called for backup.
“Officer Morales called for backup, and I went over there,” Chase County (Nebraska) Sheriff’s Deputy Duncan Einspahr said.
“I held him at gunpoint while Morales cuffed it, but I had recognized him as Trejo,” Einspahr said.
“Myself and the other officers had been looking for Trejo for a while,” he added.
By the time Morales was putting cuffs on Trejo, Einspahr said Trejo was “almost hallucinating.”
Trejo didn’t like the cuffing situation and fought arrest for about 20 minutes.
Trejo calmed down once EMS arrived, though no sedatives were administered.
