Hospice of the Plains plans Tree of Lights ceremonies
Hospice of the Plains will hold five Tree of Lights ceremonies across northeastern Colorado this holiday season.
The Tree of Lights project is an opportunity to honor and remember those who are no longer living. When a donation of any amount is given, the loved one’s name is placed on an ornament and hung on the tree.
The ceremonies are conducted by hospice volunteers who deliver a poignant message, as well as read the names of those being honored. Also, the names may include the individual’s military affiliation as Hospice of the Plains honors veterans.
A tree has been placed in the main lobby of Melissa Memorial Hospital. Hospice volunteer Andrea Calhoon noted that there will not be a particular lighting ceremony in Holyoke, but names are being added to the tree as they come in. Calhoon pointed out that individuals may memorialize or honor anyone; it does not have to be a hospice patient. There is no set amount to add a name; contributions are at will.
