HVFD brothers brave the shave in support of Maloney’s fight against cancer
Firefighters are always watching out for each other’s backs during an emergency situation, and it’s no different when they take off their gear and head back home. Last Tuesday, Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Shawn Maloney had a brain tumor removed, which he found out was a secondary cancer to the cancer in his lungs. After hearing this unexpected news, fellow HVFD members wanted to show their support for Maloney by shaving their heads. Maloney even got the privilege to help with the new hair cuts at his house Sunday, Nov. 4. Friends are pictured from left, front row, Stacy Rueter, Gabe Hubbard, Nolan Hubbard and Maloney; and back row, Spencer Kotch and Isaiah Rueter. Maloney will be starting chemotherapy and radiation treatments to fight the cancer.
