Inclusion expert to speak at NJC Oct. 10

Northeastern Junior College will be hosting a “Minimizing Implicit Bias” talk presented by Dena Samuels, Ph.D., Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Dorothy J. Corsberg Theater in E.S. French Hall on campus.
Samuels’ talk will focus on the many engrained stereotypical thoughts and ideas that have been taught and believed to be true.
Samuels is a full-time consultant after a 20-year career as a professor in women’s and ethnic studies at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. She also served as director of UCCS’ Matrix Center for the Advancement of Social Equity and Inclusion, where she co-facilitated the annual “Knapsack Institute: Transforming Teaching and Learning,” a three-day workshop that challenges and engages educators to develop culturally inclusive excellence in the classroom or workplace.
