Guns cannot be shot in tow

Gun ownership, hunting and shooting sports are commonplace in the Holyoke area, but residents should remember that firearms cannot be discharged within city limits. There are, according to Holyoke Municipal Code, two exceptions to this rule.

Sec. 9.32.010.
Discharging firearms unlawful; exceptions.

It shall be unlawful for any person to fire or discharge within the city a revolver or pistol of any description, a shotgun or rifle which may be used for the explosion of cartridges or shells, or any air gun, gas-operated gun or spring gun. This section shall not apply to the following:
(1) A law enforcement officer in the performance of his duties;
(2) A person in defense of persons or property.
