Jerry Brandt wins walking challenge

Twenty-three people started the summer on a virtual walking tour of northeast Colorado, 12 of them finished, and Jerry Brandt of Holyoke claimed top honors in the challenge.

Along the way, participants discovered historic sites, learned regional trivia, and got some fresh air and exercise in the safety of their own communities.

They had nine routes to choose from covering most points in northeast Colorado. As a group they walked 14,393,119 steps or 7,196.56 miles.

Brandt won first place. He completed all nine routes and had the most weekly wins accounting for 1,228.36 miles.  Second place went to RexAnn Briggs of Sterling, who completed 639.58 miles. Third place in the competition was earned by Rebecca (Brandt) Walz of Bismarck, North Dakota, coming in with 600 miles.
