The Jersey Tenors heat up a cold March evening

The Jersey Tenors brought down the house Monday evening, March 4, as the Phillips County Arts Council presented the fourth concert of the 2018-2019 season. The four talented tenors, Vaden Thurgood, Matthew Billman, Kevin Hack and Kenny Francoeur, displayed their amazing range of vocal abilities by performing a variety of musical styles, from classic opera to rock and swing. The Jersey Tenors wowed an enthusiastic audience of 178 music fans with a fun-filled 90 minutes of musical favorites.
Opening the concert with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons’ classic, “Big Girls Don't Cry,” the audience was hooked. Singing their way through such diverse songs as Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” a medley of Frank Sinatra songs including “Fly Me to the Moon” and Elton John’s “Your Song,” to a mashup of rock and opera songs including “Funiculi, Funicula,” “Still Rock and Roll to Me,” “La Donna Mobile” and “O Sole Mio,” the Tenors showed off their impressive vocal skills. A highlight of the first set was an awe-inspiring rendition of the “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” The audience roared its approval of this patriotic performance.
After intermission and a foray into the music of the Beach Boys, the Tenors each took a solo turn on stage. Hack sang the hilarious novelty song “Shaddap You Face” about an Italian mother scolding her young son. Billman performed the classic song “Granada,” his powerful voice filling auditorium. Thurgood, with acoustic guitar in hand, sang a tender version of Bruce Springsteen’s “Jersey Girl,” and Francoeur performed a lovely interpretation of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”
