July 4th fireworks planned Wednesday in Holyoke

Holyoke’s annual Independence Day fireworks show will kick off at dusk this year Wednesday, July 4, offering a powerful, patriotic tribute on behalf of the community.
The Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department will be launching this year’s fireworks from the field behind First Baptist Church, located at 1000 E. Johnson St.
Fire Chief John Durbin said space for viewing will be available in the church’s parking lot, as well as in the parking lot of nearby Melissa Memorial Hospital.
The Holyoke Police Department reminds residents that local law prohibits the amateur use of any firework that explodes or leaves the ground.
Residents looking for more information about the City’s firework policy may contact HPD at 970-854-2342.
While they do not plan to enforce a fire ban, police said locals should watch out for dry conditions and take appropriate precautions.
Those interested in donating to next year’s display should look for one of the firecracker-shaped collection boxes set up by the fire department around town.
