Tamara Laws, population health nurse at Family Practice of Holyoke, has been honored with the Community Star Award and will represent Colorado for the National Rural Health Day on Nov. 18.

The National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health sets aside the third Thursday of every November to celebrate NRHD — an opportunity to “Celebrate the Power of Rural” by honoring the selfless, community-minded spirit that prevails in rural America. NRHD showcases the efforts of rural health care providers, State Offices of Rural Health and other rural stakeholders to address the unique health care challenges that rural citizens face today and into the future.

Laws was nominated by Katie Schweber of the Northeast Colorado Health Directive based on her ability to be innovative, demonstrate leadership, grow rural programs and be mission driven.
