Lincoln Day event held in Haxtun

About 50 Republicans gathered for the Phillips County Lincoln Day Dinner at Haxtun Community Center Sunday, March 26.
Featured speaker Colorado Republican Party Chairman Steve House spoke on the need for the GOP to work together better, citing the recent efforts to replace the Affordable Care Act as an example of the party not working together effectively.
Also in attendance were State Representatives Jon Becker of Morgan County and Justin Everett of Jefferson County. Becker spoke on House Bill 17-1242, a proposed solution to transportation budget woes that Becker firmly opposes. He also spoke about President Pro Tem Jerry Sonnenberg’s hospital provider fee bill, which Becker prefers.
Everett commented on his desire to get out to rural areas more often and learn the opinions of local residents.
Sherrie Gibson of El Paso County was also in attendance. She is running for the vice chair of the State Republican Party. The election will be held Saturday, April 1, at the party meeting.
Holyoke High School senior Kayla Marshall and junior Luke Krogmeier shared their winning Voice of Democracy speeches at the dinner.
