Make the wedding pop with the perfect color scheme

When deciding on the details of a wedding, the bride and groom strive to find the style that fits their wedding theme as perfectly as possible. One of the most subtle yet important factors in the wedding’s aesthetic is the color scheme.

Kadie Hanson and Tyler Thelander of Grant have set their wedding date for late June. According to Hanson, selecting a color scheme was high on their to-do list. In fact, they decided on a theme and color scheme just after booking their vendors.

The couple knew they wanted a rustic theme but had some trouble deciding on colors. Hanson wanted mauve and Thelander preferred a blue, so they compromised and set navy blue as their main color.

Their secondary colors are a dusty rose and grey.

Hanson got her inspiration from Pinterest, where one can find a plethora of color scheme ideas by simply searching “wedding colors.”

The ideas on Pinterest draw from users’ own weddings and wedding planning websites to create hundreds of different color pallets.

The top results show that a common theme of a bold, rich color complemented by lighter, more muted tones. Hanson and Thelander have followed this pattern with their plan of a deep blue and lighter greys and pinks.

The Knot, a wedding planning website, helped the couple know when to begin planning certain aspects of their special day, including when to select colors. The site also provides ideas for popular wedding themes including a description of trending colors.

For 2020, The Knot’s editors state they are seeing “bold pops of color and serious statements” that touch every aspect of the wedding, from invitations to food and beverages.

Popular colors they’ve noticed include neo mint, cassis, not quite pink, yellow and faded denim.

While these colors do appear popular, there appear to be a few missing from their list.

Forest green is included in many color schemes as “natural” and “rustic” themes remain common, as they have been in the last few years. Alongside dark greens are browns, tans and creams.

Elegant Wedding Invites, a wedding blog, lists “Terracotta” as a trending color scheme which includes these colors and provides a natural and beautifully simplistic aesthetic.
