March 8 event to explore the science behind NASCAR
Dr. Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, who holds a doctorate in physics from Michigan State University, will present an exciting public talk titled “From Nanomaterials to NASCAR: Materials at 200 Miles per Hour” on Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in the Northeastern Junior College theater in Sterling.
Leslie-Pelecky is the author of the popular book, “The Physics of NASCAR,” and a regular guest on the SiriusXM Speedway satellite radio program. Her talk will explore the fact that people cannot win a NASCAR race without understanding the science.
Colorado State University is co-sponsoring the event with the American Physical Society. CSU’s Little Shop of Physics will have hands-on demos set up to explore after the talk. The event is free and open to all. It will be a great activity for the whole family.
