Master Chorale to present concert Dec. 10 in Sterling
The Master Chorale, under the direction of Don Johnson, with accompanist Mary L. Smith, will present its 26th Noel Concert on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. in the Dorothy Corsberg Theater at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling.
The first part of the program will begin with the cantata, “Go Sing It on the Mountain” by Pepper Choplin, whose “distinctive folk-infused musical style is particularly well-suited to capture this story ... of the birth of Jesus. Employing a highly inventive mixture of mountain melodies, folk hymns, spirituals, familiar carols and original music, this piece proclaims the good news from the prophet Isaiah’s proclamation, ‘Comfort, O Comfort my People,’ to the final exuberant celebration: ‘Joy to the World! Christ is born!’”
The Reverends Jodie Harless and Michelle Witherspoon serve as narrators.
After a brief intermission, the second part of the program will feature a variety of well-known Christmas songs.
