MMH to increase transparency with new charge master tool

Melissa Memorial Hospital will soon be implementing a charge master management tool to comply with an executive order’s deadline of Jan. 1, 2021.

MMH CEO Cathy Harshbarger briefed the East Phillips County Hospital District Board of Directors about the situation at their virtual monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 27.

She said MMH is looking at a managment tool called PARA. It will cost up to $6,100 for implementation before the first of the year and up to $2,800 quarterly for updates.

The goal of the executive order is to make prices for items and services provided by all hospitals in the U.S. more transparent for patients so that they can be more informed about what they might pay for hospital items and services.
