Fresh flowers and natural, soft hairstyles are expected to be some of the wedding trends this season.

Natural, fresh looks expected this wedding season

People remember their wedding day the rest of their lives, so it’s no surprise that everyone wants to look their best on the big day. Two important wedding components — hair and flowers — need to be ready to make a lasting impression when it comes to walking down the aisle.

Lockdowns, capacity restrictions and other COVID-19 regulations have put a damper on weddings the last couple of years, but what trends in wedding hairstyles and flowers are expected for the 2022 wedding season?

Misti Redman and Holli Purkeypile of Strandz Salon in Holyoke have styled their share of brides’ (and grooms’) hair over the years, and Kayla Kafka of Country Treasures Floral & More in Holyoke has helped with flower arrangements for weddings and helped brides decide on what flowers they want for their perfect day.

All work hard to make sure weddings are events to remember a lifetime, and they provided some insight into what hair and flower trends they expect to see for weddings in 2022.

Natural look is in

Redman said that in the last couple of years, the trend has been a soft look, including flowy hair, lightly pulled back styles, and loose braids or curls. She said she expects this trend toward more of a natural look — something not so “do”-ish — to continue into 2022, since that look seems to be popular in magazines and other media.

She said the trend seems to be that brides don’t want to be able to see the hair product as much, using it as more of a styling agent than as something to hold the hair in place.

Redman added that people can generally see where the year’s trends are headed when the Academy Awards are held, since this is when some of the biggest Hollywood stars showcase their hairstyles, helping to set the trends for the season.

Additionally, people often get their style ideas for their weddings from social media. This is especially true on Pinterest, where people can create their own wedding boards.

Redman said brides typically share their ideas with her through their Pinterest boards before the wedding, and they always try to have everything in place before the big day.

This move toward a more natural look seems to have been happening for the last several years, said Redman. She said hairstyles can follow styles and trends in other areas like clothing and even architecture.
