Sterling S-curve work delayed by utility work, CDOT spokesman says

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Sept. 26 — Unexpected utility work has put the $16.6 million Sterling S-curve project a little behind schedule, according to Colorado Department of Transportation spokesman Jared Fiel.

Wednesday, Fiel shared a brief update on the project that is designed to reroute traffic on the three highways that intersect in Sterling. He said progress on the construction that began in March has been delayed as crews have opened up the road and “found things in the wrong place,” requiring additional work to relocate the utilities before the project can progress.

However, he added, things are coming together more quickly now as cooler weather approaches.

Hillcrest to cease offering secured skilled memory care services

WRAY GAZETTE, Sept. 25 — It is with a heavy heart the Wray Community Health District Board of Directors, administration and management have made the decision to no longer provide secured skilled memory care services at Hillcrest Care Center.

Currently, it utilizes 12 of the 45 total skilled nursing rooms for seniors requiring a secure locked environment due to the safety concerns for wandering and behaviors associated with dementia and Alzheimer’s and/or low sensory requirement.

Six of the current nine residents residing in the secured environment will remain and be safely cared for in the nursing home. This change will take place in late October.

Report: US 6 among worst in the state

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Sept. 25 — Highways in Logan County are starting to get some close attention from the Colorado Department of Transportation. Logan County Commissioner Byron Pelton reported to his colleagues Tuesday morning that U.S. 6 from the Morgan County line all the way through Sterling and to Nebraska is of special concern. Pelton said the corridor is rated 5 on a five-point scale, with 5 being the worst.

Pelton recently attended an Eastern District Transportation Planning Region meeting at which CDOT personnel talked about results of public opinion and county commissioner polls held in August.

Commissioner Jane Bauder, who helped conduct the opinion survey during the Logan County Fair, noted that the U.S. 6 corridor got more comments than any other corridor in Logan County.
