102-year-old house moved from south Champion

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Nov. 28 — The roads of southwestern Chase County, Nebraska, were crowded Monday as a house in rural Champion, Nebraska, was moved to a new location.

The 102-year-old house, now owned by Jeff Bechard and Laura Maddox-Bechard of Imperial, Nebraska, was the childhood home of Laura Lou Kelly.

“I was actually born in that house,” Kelly said. “(The house) is going to have another life,” she added. “It’s nice that other people can enjoy it.”

The Bechard family purchased the house from Meeske Cattle, and it was located at 32551 732 Road, Champion. It was moved to 32890 S 15-A.

Lost falcon found far away

YUMA PIONEER, Nov. 28 — The gyrfalcon has been found! Steve Hannon, a resident of Yuma County, lost his black, female gyrfalcon on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Seventeen days later the falcon turned up in Scott City, Kansas.

A Facebook post featured a picture of the falcon. A ranching family spotted the bird and called a wildlife officer. The wildlife officer called Hannon.

He didn’t waste any time driving to Scott City to retrieve his bird, but the wildlife officer wanted more information to positively identify the bird.

Wauneta man hits Imperial store

WAUNETA BREEZE, Nov. 21 — A rural Wauneta, Nebraska, man accidentally ran his car into the front of an Imperial, Nebraska, grocery store Nov. 6.

A 2005 Buick La Sabre, driven by 78-year-old Fred Krausnick, hit the front door and window area of Hill’s Family Foods, 131 E. 5th St., at about 4:35 p.m. The Chase County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about an accident with injuries, and Sgt. Justin Mueller responded to the accident.

Two female patrons and a male employee were struck while walking out the door.

Girls’ wrestling season is among proposals at district NSAA meeting

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Nov. 21 — One of the proposals at this area’s district meeting of the Nebraska School Activities Association was adding girls’ wrestling as a new sanctioned activity of the NSAA, which oversees high school athletics.

Troy Hauxwell, Activities Director at Chase County, Nebraska, Schools, attended the District 5 meeting Nov. 5 in McCook, Nebraska, and reported at the Nov. 12 CCS board meeting on some of the proposals considered by area schools.
