Music program changes draw comments from community
    IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, May 18 — While at least five people spoke against the Chase County Schools band and choir assignments for 2017-18, administration is standing firm on its decision to make some changes.
    Discussion on assignments for Randy Hayes and Agnes Strand took up a good portion of the May 9 school board meeting, which about 40 people attended.
    Those speaking asked that Hayes retain his current assignments as grade 7-12 choir and show choir director and Strand as grade 5-12 band teacher/director.

Sunset on the Sunrise
    YUMA PIONEER, May 18 — Big Dog Excavation’s crew was busy hauling away the rubble of what was left of the Sunrise Inn at the corner of highways 34 and 59 earlier this week.
    A long-time fixture on the northwest corner, the motel was torn down last week and hauled off this week to make room for the Bank of Colorado’s new home, which is expected to open next year.

 

Welcome center operations contract opens employment opportunities
    JULESBURG ADVOCATE, May 18 — Sedgwick County is happy to announce that it has entered into a contract with the Colorado Department of Transportation to take over operations of the Sedgwick County Welcome Center. Prior to this contract, CDOT had been operating the welcome center.
    For the County, this opportunity brings many exciting possibilities, but none more than the chance for new County jobs without increasing this year’s budget. The County will officially take over operations July 1.
