Wauneta-Palisade moving back to 6-man football in 2020

WAUNETA BREEZE, March 19 — After spending four years in the eight-man football ranks, the Wauneta-Palisade (Nebraska) football team is returning to six-man football.

The team played six-man for four seasons, 2012-2015, winning a non-sanctioned state championship in 2012.

Based on odd year’s three-grade enrollment submitted to the Nebraska Department of Education, schools with 27 or fewer male students are eligible to play six-man football. Schools with more than 27 may opt down to six-man but are not eligible for the playoffs. Schools may also opt up.

12 departments battle grass fire between Lodgepole and Chappell

CHAPPELL REGISTER, March 12 — Last Wednesday afternoon, March 4, the Chappell (Nebraska) Volunteer Fire Department was called to assist with a grass fire that began from the tree dump on the north side of Lodgepole, Nebraska. The fire quickly moved east, jumping the road, and continued to grow on the north side of Highway 30.

Fire departments from Lodgepole, Sidney, Ogallala, Oshkosh, Big Springs, Broadwater Gurley, Julesburg, Ovid, Sedgwick and Crook came together to battle the blaze that burned a path approximately 7 miles long and up to 1/2 mile wide.

Travis Tritt to headline Night Show

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, March 23 — Southern rock-influenced artist Travis Tritt will headline the 2020 East Cheyenne Gas Storage Night Show during the 2020 Logan County Fair.

The fair board revealed the booking during a virtual announcement party Friday afternoon.

Iliff native Braydon Zink will open the show for Tritt.
