Red Willow deputy facing multiple charges

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, July 9 — A Red Willow County, Nebraska, sheriff’s deputy was arrested last month on multiple charges after a state patrol investigation into two incidents in May.

In June, the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office requested the state patrol to investigate a report of the deputy, Justin Dice, 28, allegedly using his official patrol vehicle to follow a vehicle driven by his wife.

During the May 31 incident on Highway 83, Dice reportedly drove his patrol vehicle in a manner forcing his wife to take evasive actions in order to avoid a collision and from being forced off the road.

Sterling-based firm’s penny horses might stay at King Soopers stores

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, July 7 — The “penny horses” at King Soopers stores might be staying after all.

The horses, owned and maintained by Sterling’s Roundup Music Co., have been given a reprieve by the supermarket chain, which paused an April decision to eliminate the rides because of concerns about COVID-19.

The company is owned by Eddie Bennett, who now lives in Texas but who keeps the company’s headquarters in Sterling.

Although the details of the company’s beginnings have begun to fade, Eddie told the Journal-Advocate his grandfather, Stan Bennett, started the company in the late 1940s, possibly in 1947, as a jukebox servicing company. The company thrived on Bennett’s innovations.

Businesses asked to watch for fake money

WRAY GAZETTE, July 8 — On June 30, the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office investigated a suspicious person on private property who was sleeping in a stolen vehicle.

The subject was arrested without incident, and the stolen vehicle was recovered. The suspect was booked into the Yuma County Jail and was found to have fake money in his possession.
