Docupots becomes Logan County’s first Rural Jump Start business

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, July 14 — A local entrepreneur recently got a “jump start” for a manufacturing business he’s been working on for five years. The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade designated Docupots LLC as the first Logan County Rural Jump Start business at their June 19 Economic Development Commission.

Docupots is a new company recently formed by Roger Hosea, owner of Northeast Colorado Total Document Management, a mobile document shredding business serving confidential and secured document shredding needs throughout the region. Hosea began experimenting with shredded paper and using the material to improve on biodegradable seed pot designs back in 2015.

After developing a successful formula that completely biodegrades the seed pot, while still allowing strong early root development, Hosea purchased manufacturing equipment necessary to begin volume production of his proprietary products.

Receiving Rural Jump Start status is a major milestone and will help Hosea push the business to the next level.

Annex plans move forward

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, July 15 — Plans are in the works to secure another grant to continue upgrading the Logan County Courthouse Annex co-work space.

The main floor of the annex, which previously housed county court offices and the sheriff’s office, has been remodeled into a handful of offices, conference rooms and an open workspace that can double as a classroom.

Now, Trae Miller, executive director of the Logan County Economic Development Corporation, wants to begin work on the second floor, which housed the county jail. Miller briefed the Logan County commissioners during their Tuesday morning work session on his efforts to secure another Rural Economic Development Initiative grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs.

Miller estimated the grant request will be in the $50,000 to $75,000 range to get work started on the remodeling but said he won’t know final numbers for awhile yet.
