AKRON NEWS-REPORTER, Aug. 26 — After months of anticipation, water finally began going into the newly constructed Akron Pond last Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Currently, one line is pumping 150 gallons/minute into the pond, though Akron Town Clerk Dencia Raish said an additional line will be added in the next week or two. The town is hoping to have the pond filled by the end of October, and when all is said and done, it will hold 16 million gallons of water.

FJHS/FHS moves to remote learning status 4 days into year

HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, Aug. 26 — Fleming junior/senior high school students are on remote learning status, just four days into the new school year.

According to Fleming Superintendent Steve McCracken, a student or staff member at the junior/senior high school has been diagnosed with COVID-19. As part of the public health investigation, the person diagnosed is being kept home from the school until they are no longer infectious.

Sterling S-Curve set to open Sept. 4

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Aug. 29 — The countdown is on to the long-awaited opening of the Sterling S-Curve.

The Colorado Department of Transportation announced in a release Thursday that the majority of the new S-Curve alignment will open Sept. 4.

The S-Curve is a new roadway connecting U.S. Highway 6/Chestnut Street and Colorado 14/West Main along an abandoned railroad right of way. Parsons Construction Group of Westminster is the prime contractor on this $16.6 million project.
