CDOT planning bus service to connect Sterling, Greeley

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Oct. 8 — Residents in northeast Colorado may soon be able to catch a ride to Greeley on the state’s own bus service.

Julie Skeen, senior strategic director at Communication Infrastructure Group in Denver, consultants to the Colorado Department of Transportation, briefed the Logan County commissioners Tuesday on plans to expand CDOT’s Bustang Outrider service into northeast Colorado.

Bustang is CDOT’s inter-city bus service connecting major cities along the Front Range not already served by existing public transit, such as the Regional Transportation District. It began in 2015 with routes from Denver to Glenwood Springs, Fort Collins and Colorado Springs.

HS principal reinstated in controversial decision

BURLINGTON RECORD, Oct. 1 — In a controversial vote that led to the resignation of two school board members, the Burlington School Board voted 5-2 on Sept. 23 to reinstate embattled Burlington High School Principal Shane Waterman until at least the Christmas holidays.

Waterman had been placed on paid administrative leave after announcing his refusal to enforce the board’s policy of students and staff wearing masks in the building when around other staffers and/or other students. The board policy is an extension of Gov. Jared Polis’ statewide mandate of masks being worn indoors to help fight the spread of COVID-19.

New shrimp farm operation supplies fresh shrimp

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Oct. 8 — Grant Jones, along with parents, Shawn and Julie Jones, have started a new business southwest of Champion, Nebraska, on the Chase County, Nebraska, and Dundy County, Nebraska, county line called the Chundy Aquaculture Company. The brand name is Champion Shrimp.

Grant is the manager and operator of Champion Shrimp shrimp farm, supplying fresh shrimp to the area.

“I received my first batch of older PLs (post larval baby shrimp) from a source in Indiana on April 1,” Jones said.

Chase County Schools no longer COVID free

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, OCT. 8 — Chase County Schools Superintendent Adam Lambert said that as of Wednesday morning, Oct. 7, 1% of the student body in grades K-12 had tested positive. With 625 students enrolled, that means at least six students have tested positive for the coronavirus.

After the first case was reported last week, Lambert said students in grades 7-12 were required to wear masks.
