Imperial Bible Church closing doors after more than 40 years

IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Dec. 24 — The Imperial, Nebraska, Bible Church will hold its last service this Sunday before locking its doors. With all that has been happening over the past year, this might not have been the best news, but it’s not all bad.

CRVS’ $111,000 bid for Leisure Lane gets nod

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Dec. 24 — The city of Sterling’s 42-plus acre “Leisure Lane” property appears to be bound for new ownership.

Sterling City Council gave preliminary approval to an ordinance selling the land, located south of Highway 6 and east of Highway 61, to Colorado Retail Venture Services at their meeting Tuesday night, on a 5-1-1 vote. Council member Bob McCarty recused himself from the matter because of a family relationship with CRVS.

Council member Kelly Blecha, who was participating in the meeting remotely, cast the sole dissenting vote after expressing a desire to know more about the company’s plans for the property. City Manager Don Saling said he believed CRVS viewed the property as “easily buildable,” with several sites that would be prime for restaurants, but noted the sales agreement does not commit them to that purpose.

“We know about the operation tournament, the wish for a new electronic cemetery board, Suzy the dog being flown to Winnipeg, and we’ve all fallen in love a bit with your city and Perkins County.”

Skepticism then turned into curiosity. The podcast, “Show Yourself Mr. Jasmine,” really did exist and indeed Grant had a featured segment in the conversation.

The most important question — why Grant?

As the three friends were laying the groundwork for their podcast, they thought it would be fun to feature a smaller, lessor known place in the English speaking world.
