Haxtun Board of Education unanimously adopts 4-day calendar for next school year
HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, April 28 — Haxtun students will have Mondays off when they return to school next fall. The Board of Education unanimously adopted a four-day calendar for the 2021-22 school year at a meeting April 20.
The final decision to make the change from a five-day to four-day school week comes following months of discussion among board members, administration and staff as well as several revisions to proposed calendars.
Census: Nebraska grows 7.4% in early data report
IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, April 28 — Nebraska continues to grow, up 7.4% over the last 10 years, according to initial population data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Monday. This first release of population figures is broken down only to the state level.
Nebraska reached nearly 2 million in the census figures with a total state population of 1,961,504 people. That compares to 1,826,341 people counted in the 2010 census — an increase of 7.4%.
That matched the population growth of the U.S., which also showed growth of 7.4% during the last 10 years.
Overall population in the U.S. now totals 331,449,281 people. In the last 10 years, the U.S. has added 22.7 million in population.
Colorado added 744,518 residents since the last census, a growth rate of 14.8%.
Social-emotional coach offers discreet ear for staff, students
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, May 1 — Sometimes you just need a friendly ear to listen to you. At Merino Schools, that person is Logan Tharp, social-emotional learning coach/counselor.
Tharp is relatively new to the district, hired in 2018 to be someone both students and staff could go to for a discreet ear to listen and to offer good advice.
