New signs go up

HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, June 9 — Just several weeks shy of the one-year anniversary of a severe June thunderstorm that caused mass destruction throughout town, new welcome signs went up on the east and west ends of Haxtun.

RE-1 board renews superintendent contract through June 2023

STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, June 23 — Despite several pleas not to renew her contract, the RE-1 Valley School Board voted 6-1 to renew the contract of Superintendent Shila Adolf through June 30, 2023, during a business meeting Monday.

Prior to the vote, during the public comments portion of the meeting, the board heard from seven parents and community members who requested that Adolf’s contract not be renewed.

SAVA makes plans to close Life Care

YUMA PIONEER, June 17 — Yuma’s only nursing home care facility is in danger of being closed.

Approximately 70 concerned citizens, local government officials and Yuma Life Care Center staff attended a meeting Tuesday afternoon to discuss how to prevent that from happening.

It will take $2.5 million to make that happen, including purchasing the open lot located behind Life Care.

The first step will be Yuma Life Care’s Family Advisory Committee forming an ad hoc committee to explore ways to purchase the facility from the owner/operator, SAVA.

However, it will have to be a quick process.
