Commissioner tours Sterling Livestock; Sil steals the show

THE FENCE POST, Oct. 22 — Silvan Tadolini, who said everyone calls him Sil for short, has seen a lot of groups rumble through the gate and into the sale ring at the Sterling Livestock Commission, but the first group on Wednesday caught his eye and he came down to his usual spot to get a better look.

Jim Santomaso, SLC’s owner and auctioneer, was quick to introduce the group to some of the people who dotted the seats around the ring. From his seat ringside, Sil Tadolini stood and grinned, obviously pleased that Santomaso was introducing him to the group.

In the ring, wrapping up a tour, were Colorado Agriculture Commissioner Kate Greenberg, Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, Rep. Richard Holtorf, Robert Sakata, Amber Weber, Dan Waldvogel, Rep. Rod Pelton, Logan County Commissioner Byron Pelton, Cari Linker from Sen. John Hickenlooper’s office, Jane Thompson from Sen. Michael Bennet’s office, Gini Pingenot, Darlene Carpio from Rep. Ken Buck’s office and Colleen Peppler.

Santomaso offered a tour of his Sterling Livestock Commission to Greenberg and others as part of a two-day tour of the area.

Superintendent Dianna Chrisman reported about the recent survey results of students and community members. The district received a total of 869 responses. The voting was Tribe, 467; Yetis, 238; Aggies, 66; Pioneers, 39; Bison, 32; Lightning, 24; and  Huntsmen, six.

The possibility of marijuana sales within Julesburg discussed

JULESBURG ADVOCATE, Oct. 8 — Addressing members of the Julesburg Town Board, Janice Kilpatrick of Wild West Weed & Seed asked the board to consider approving a license for a retail marijuana dispensary at 15276 Highway U.S. 385 near the I-76 interchange.

3WS currently operates a hemp apothecary and often turns away customers looking to purchase marijuana. As such, Julesburg is losing large amounts in sales and excise tax revenues.

Kilpatrick estimated that if granted a marijuana license, 3WS could be opened for retail sales as soon as six months and would employ 12-14 full-time positions.
