Miles Lagler recovering from farm accident
GRANT TRIBUNE-SENTINEL, July 5 — “Very blessed!” That’s how Becca Lagler of Grant, Nebraska, described how her family feels about the outcome of a June 28 farm accident that could have had a much more tragic ending.
Becca and Mark Lagler’s son, Miles, 18, is recovering from a farm accident he suffered while working on the Shawn Turner farm north of Grant.
Young Lagler was working on a planter on the Turner farm when the accident occurred. Mrs. Lagler said Miles was standing beside a seed box on the planter when the hydraulics released, lowering the planter to the ground.
That action squashed Miles between a tire and the planter frame, near his mid-section and chest cavity. After Lagler’s screams alerted coworkers, the hydraulics were re-engaged to free Lagler.
Lagler suffered traumatic asphyxiation when pinched by the planter. Traumatic asphyxiation is a medical emergency brought on by intense compression of the chest. This leads to back-flow of blood from the right side of the heart into the veins of the neck and brain.

Energy group comes to NE Colorado
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, July 7 — An energy information group that has been working on the Western Slope since 2015 has reorganized and opened a presence in northeast Colorado.
Josh Sonnenberg has been named eastern Colorado director for the Colorado Rural Energy Action Committee. CREAC was formerly known as Piceance Energy Action Council and had confined its activities to the western part of the state. But with the return of oil and gas exploration to northeastern Colorado, the group re-formed and renamed itself.
“With the oil and gas industry starting to pick up in northeastern Colorado again it’s important that our community members are well informed,” Sonnenberg said. “Our communities are expecting to see an influx in rig workers, and it’s imperative that community members understand what they do, why they do it and the many benefits it has for the consumer. It’s a major driving force of our local economies.”

Monday hail storm causes major damages in Wray
WRAY GAZETTE, June 28 — Insurance adjusters, body shops and roofing companies will be on the speed dials of many in the Wray area after a late afternoon thunderstorm gathered directly overhead and delivered a punishing blow to anyone out and about in Wray Monday afternoon.
A window rattling clap of thunder announced the storm’s arrival just before 4 p.m. Monday, and about 20 minutes later, the first pea sized hail stones bounced off Wray’s Main Street.
Less than five minutes later, however, the size of the stones that were falling increased exponentially and approached golf ball size or larger in some reported cases.
