Plan in place to address county roads
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Aug. 4 — The Logan County Commissioners received a follow-up visit from citizen Richard Hutt during their Aug. 1 work session.
Hutt returned to the work session with several supporters to check up on the demands he made during the July 11 commissioner’s work session. In that heated July 11 work session, Hutt demanded that Commissioners Joe McBride, Byron Pelton and Dave Donaldson drive a number of county roads to see what condition the roads were in and write up a report within two weeks. Hutt’s demands also came with the threat of a recall if commissioners failed to do something about the graveled roads.
Hutt set the tone early in the Aug. 1 work session by challenging McBride and Pelton. “Last time I was here three weeks ago, I gave you an assignment. Remember what the assignment was?” he asked.
Pelton answered, “To drive county roads.”
Hutt shot back, “Did you drive any?”
Pelton replied, “I drove some.” McBride nodded his head in agreement.
“Did you drive the numbers I told you? What did you find?” Hutt asked.

New business development slated for I-76 interchange
JULESBURG ADVOCATE, Aug. 3 — “The development is 33 acres of blank canvas, waiting to be painted,” says Denver real estate broker Mark Hernandez speaking of his investment group’s recent purchase of land at the Julesburg I-76 interchange. The properties were previously the Flying J Truck Stop, the Sweden Créme and other vacant property west of the Flying J. The purchasing investment group is one of several that Hernandez and Associates Brokerage LLC represents. The group has done extensive development projects on the front range of Colorado.
Proposed use of the properties include a national flagged hotel, a truck fuel center inclusive of compressed natural gas, a national franchise RV campground geared toward the outdoorsman, and a restaurant. With infrastructure work required, the public will not likely see progress for at least one to one and a half years in the future. Hernandez is working closely with the Town of Julesburg to bring the development to a place where the community will be pleased.
