New post office system allows digital preview of daily incoming mail
    IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Jan. 11 — Barb Prottsman, postmaster overseeing post offices in Nebraska’s Imperial, Enders and Champion, has announced a new program called the “Informed Delivery System,” available from most post offices across the country.
    This system provides digital imaging of daily mail and sends an email to the customer so they can preview their incoming mail every morning, Prottsman said.

Sugar beet growers will not receive January payment
    YUMA PIONEER, Jan. 11 — January payments will not be made to Western Sugar’s grower shareholders, including several in Yuma, Phillips and Kit Carson counties.
    The shareholders were informed of the development in two letters sent to them from cooperative CEO Rodney Perry.
    Western Sugar’s nine-member board of directors voted not to make the January beet payment because “this past month has not gone well regarding sugar and slice production across most of our facilities.”

HHD Board of Directors progresses in search for CEO Larry Schrage’s replacement
    HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, Jan. 10 — The Haxtun Hospital District Board of Directos have progressed in their search for a chief executive officer. During a meeting at the end of December, board members agreed to proceed in the interview process with four potential applicants.
    Onsite interviews are slated for this month.

Perkins County corn featured in Rose Parade
    GRANT TRIBUNE SENTINEL, Jan. 10 — The Tournament of Roses is a tradition that millions come together to enjoy every year with the Rose Bowl and Rose Parade making their way onto televisions across the world on New Year’s Day.
    This year, Pasadena, California, resident Marla Borowski, formerly of Perkins County, Nebraska, completed her 19th parade as a volunteer for the Tournament of Roses Association.
     This year, the 129th Rose Parade had another special tie to Perkins County, thanks to Borowski.
    As part of the association that puts on the parade, Borowski was alerted early that Ag PhD TV & Radio would be one of 18 commercial floats in this year’s parade with their “Salute to Farmers” themed float.
    Having an ag background, she knew the name and immediately got on their website to discover Ag PhD was seeking seeds from all 50 states and thousands of farms across the country to help them decorate their float.

Protestors were at Gardner’s house
    YUMA PIONEER, Jan. 11 — U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner and his family had some unexpected visitors outside their Yuma home shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve.
    A group of disabled activists gathered on the sidewalk in front of Gardner’s home, complete with “blinking signs and sparkling cider,” according to the 9News report.
    The protesters reportedly wanted Gardner, who was home for the holidays enjoying time with his wife and their three young children, to come outside or invite them in to discuss Senate Bill 190, a bill to “prohibit discrimination against individuals with disabilities who need long-term services.”
