Officer on paid leave after shooting
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, June 1 — A Colorado Department of Corrections officer has been put on paid administrative leave after shooting a prison inmate Wednesday who was allegedly trying to escape.
The officer was not injured in the shooting, and CDOC said the administrative leave status is per policy.
There is still no word on the condition of 29-year-old Brian Estrada. The state prison inmate was shot as he was allegedly trying to escape from a courtroom in the Logan County Justice Center on Wednesday.
Estrada was in a 13th Judicial District Court courtroom at about 2:30 p.m. for hearings on two criminal cases Wednesday when authorities said he tried to flee but was stopped when the unidentified CDOC officer shot and wounded him.

“Then I didn’t hear or feel anything, so I got up and saw the four tornados around us.
