Use permit for Aurora dairy gets approval
IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, June 14 — Like it or not, Chase County, Nebraska, will be home to a new organic dairy northwest of Imperial, Nebraska.
Following a public hearing on a conditional use permit for Aurora Dairy Tuesday, Chase County commissioners Dave Hogsett, Chuck Vette and Donnie Weiss voted unanimously to approve issuance of the permit.
With the CUP in hand, Aurora Dairy can proceed with plans to build a two-barn facility, each holding 1,440 head of dairy cows. The facility will also hold up to 620 head of dry cows, heifers and calves.
The approved permit is a Class II CUP which allows for up to 5,000 animal units, provided a 1-mile setback from all neighboring homes is met.

Complex of thunderstorms spawns tornado
GRANT TRIBUNE-SENTINEL, June 13 — Winds from a tornado that touched down briefly 9 miles northwest of Grant, Nebraska, on Wednesday, June 6, left agricultural equipment damaged.
According to the National Weather Service of North Platte, Nebraska, a complex of thunderstorms moving through the area created the 10-yard-wide tornado, which was rated an EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita scale.
The brief touchdown began at 7:24 p.m. and ended at 7:25 p.m., traveling 0.1 miles with an estimated peak wind of 70 mph.
