Storm causes extreme damage
BRUSH NEWS-TRIBUNE, July 30 — The severe storms that passed through Morgan County Sunday night left a lot of damage in their wake.
“Eastern Morgan County was hit by severe weather this afternoon, some of the worst damage I have seen here,” Morgan County Sheriff Jim Crone stated. “Fortunately injuries were minor; however, there are many homes and vehicles with significant damage from wind, trees and large hail.”
While many agencies were calling what happened a tornado, the National Weather Service had not yet announced a determination of what type of weather event it was for sure by deadline Monday. There was a large-scale tornado watch in effect and several tornado warnings issued for smaller areas of the county Sunday night.

Tana Pope takes seat at Haxtun Town Council table
HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, July 25 — To continue to fund the library or not was one topic of discussion at a special meeting of the Haxtun Town Council Monday evening, July 16.
The special meeting opened with swearing in of new council member Tana Pope, who was appointed to the council at a meeting the week prior. Pope will take the place of David Bickford and serve until the next regular election. Following her oath of office, the council moved on to discussion about the Haxtun Public Library.
Council members have, for quite some time, discussed funding for the public library. Currently the Town of Haxtun uses money from enterprise funds to balance the library’s budget in the amount of $30,000.
At a recent meeting, town librarian Vickie Freemyer said she utilizes all grant funding available but that all major fundraising efforts have been exhausted. There was once a group, the Friends of the Library, who regularly raised money to help library operations; however, Freemyer said that group has since dissolved.

Spaceport meeting was held in Burlington
YUMA PIONEER, Aug. 2 — Spaceport Colorado is a commercial aircraft operation looking for a horizontal launch license. A group of 10-15 interested citizens met with Ken Buck representatives Erika Chaves and Cody LeBlanc who started off the listening session in Burlington. Those in attendance were then able to meet Dave Ruppel, airport director out of Adams County.
Those who are a part of Spaceport Colorado have produced a vehicle meant to be launched into suborbital space. The vehicle is the same size as a medium business jet. It takes off just like any other commercial flight, but then produces two sonic booms, to help get it in and out of suborbital space. While up in space, they pick the angle for re-entry and head back toward earth with the second sonic boom. It would turn a flight from Denver to Tokyo into an hour and half flight!
