Haxtun Health and Fitness Initiative gains momentum
HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, Aug. 29 — The Haxtun Health and Fitness Initiative has gained momentum in moving forward with a pool project. It’s in the process of applying for grant funds from several sources. According to Haxtun Chamber director Sara Firme, the project has almost $100,000 in pledges to date.
The Haxtun Chamber of Commerce, the organization backing the project, started with the goal of building a new recreation center that would feature an indoor walking path, basketball court and outdoor pool; however, due to the current state of the existing pool, that endeavor has been scaled back and is now a part of a two-phase plan.
The existing pool was originally built in 1934 and in the 1950s was converted to a heated pool.

HAXTUN-FLEMING HERALD, Aug. 29 — Good news for the residents of Fleming. The council applied for an Energy and Mineral Impact Grant in July. The town council received a letter Aug. 8 announcing an award for the total $1 million.
