Teen charged in fatal shooting
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Dec. 29 — A 17-year-old boy is being held at the Platte Valley Youth Detention Center in Greeley on multiple charges after a shooting incident in Sterling Thursday that left another teen dead.
The Sterling Police Department was called to a reported gunshot at 522 N. Second Ave. at about 4:12 p.m. Thursday, where they discovered the body of a juvenile male dead from “what appeared to be a recent gunshot wound,” according to a press release issued Friday afternoon.
The release states that both the suspect and the 15-year-old victim are from Colorado Springs. They knew each other and traveled to Sterling together to visit a family member of the suspect a few days prior to the shooting. SPD has not released any names of those involved.

Bell garden started at Chase County Museum
IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, Dec. 27 — The Chase County Museum has a new addition. A bell garden was started this fall on the east side of the building.
“The bells in the garden have been donated over the years from schools and churches in Chase County,” said Chase County Historical president Charley Colton.
The garden was able to happen thanks to a donation from the children of Gladys and Dwight Hoff.

Gov.-elect picks state’s first woman ag commissioner
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Dec. 27 — For the first time since the office was established in 1949, Colorado’s agriculture commissioner will not be a man with an extensive background in production agriculture. In fact, the new ag commissioner won’t be a man at all.
Governor-elect Jared Polis has announced that his pick to head Colorado’s massive Department of Agriculture will be Kate Greenberg, who has served as the western program director for the National Young Farmers Coalition since 2013.
