CU football giant Bill Brundige dies at age 70
DENVER POST, Jan. 3 — Bill Brundige, one of the most feared defenders and most honored football players in Colorado Buffaloes history, died Dec. 29 after a battle with cancer, CU announced Thursday. He was 70.
The 6-foot-5 Brundige, who died at his home in Knoxville, Tenn., was a key cog at defensive end and defensive tackle for the Buffs’ 1967 Bluebonnet Bowl and 1969 Liberty Bowl champions and was inducted into the CU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.
The pass-rushing specialist, who was born in Holyoke and starred at Haxtun High School, was tapped as a first-team All-American as a senior in 1969 by the Football Writers Association of America and Look Magazine. Brundige was selected to the All-Big Eight first team at defensive end that fall after recording 13 sacks and 24 tackles for losses, both school records at the time.

Educators back at Capitol with legislative priorities
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, Jan. 5 — Educators aren’t giving up the fight to improve school funding. More than 100 members of the Colorado Education Association from across the state welcomed legislators to the Capitol on Friday for the kickoff of the 2019 Colorado General Assembly and let them know that they want education to be a top priority during this legislative session.
“We wanted to be present with our lawmakers on the first day of session to let them know this is a critical time in Colorado to respect and value educators and students. Our members are in the Capitol today to remind legislators that every day tens of thousands of educators are in school classrooms, cafeterias and buses helping more than 900,000 students succeed,” said CEA president Amie Baca-Oehlert, a high school counselor.
