Many county residents oppose proposed Canna Fest
AKRON NEWS-REPORTER, March 27 — The County Planning and Zoning Commission’s meeting brought a lot of pepole of the county to the courthouse, as the last item was a temporary use permit for a Canna Fest festival planned for Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
Kirk and Melissa Larson, who live on County Road BB, were the ones who applied for the permit. The festival will be held on property on Washington County Roads 34.5 and BB.

City makes major land purchase
YUMA PIONEER, March 28 — The City of Yuma is in the process of making a major land purchase at the northeast edge of town. The Yuma City Council voted 6-0 in favor of purchasing 73 acres for a grand total of $730,000, last week during its regular meeting.

Yuma County Fairgrounds gets boost from GOCO grant
WRAY GAZETTE, March 20 — Last week the Great Outdoors Colorado board awarded Yuma County a $350,000 Local Park and Outdoor Recreation Grant to make upgrades at the Yuma County Fairgrounds.

Chase County voters will decide on $20.5 million hospital bond
IMPERIAL REPUBLICAN, March 14 — The fate of a new hospital in Chase County, Nebraska, will be decided by voters in a special election this May. On Tuesday, county commissioners approved a resolution, on a 3-0 vote, sending the question of a $20.5 million bond issue to voters.
During a special meeting March 4, the hospital board voted to move forward with the project and asked the commissioners to put the bond election to a vote of the people.

Yuma a part of boys volleyball pilot program
YUMA PIONEER, March 7 — One spring sport not impacted by the outside weather is boys volleyball.
Statewide, boys volleyball is being treated as a pilot program this spring, and YHS has decided to field a team. The girls volleyball staff members are volunteering their time to coach the boys. Sixteen boys have expressed an interest in playing.
If Colorado High School Activities Association goes ahead and decides to sanction boys volleyball, its first official season will be next spring.

Bass Pro Shops closing down operations in Sidney, Oshkosh
LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR, March 7 — More bad news for Sidney, Nebraska. Bass Pro Shops said Thursday that it plans to shutter the Cabela’s distribution center in the next couple of months.
The 77-year-old Sidney facility handled less volume than all of the other distribution centers. Bass Pro said it is restructuring its distribution network to provide faster shipping and better compete with e-commerce companies. The move also will result in the closure of a merchandise return center in Oshkosh, Nebraska.

GOCO grants $350,000 for Merino track
STERLING JOURNAL-ADVOCATE, March 7 — After many years of effort to raise funds to update Merino High School’s track and field, it was announced Wednesday that Logan County, in partnership Buffalo RE-4J School District, has been awarded $350,000 by Great Outdoors Colorado.
The high school’s 52-year-old dirt track is currently unusable for events; the district has not hosted track and field events since 1988. Drainage issues have created deep, hazardous ruts in the track, which has forced track students to practice on the streets of Merino.
