Oct. 10 tribute show takes fans back to John Denver hits

When you hear songs like “Rocky Mountain High,” “Annie’s Song” and “Country Roads,” one can’t help but recall fondly the enduring memory of John Denver, clearly one of the most beloved performers in the history of popular music. And as time continues to pass, his music stands the test of time and grows in popularity.

A tribute show called Take Me Home — The Music of John Denver, featuring Jim Curry, is on its way to the Holyoke High School auditorium Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Phillips County Arts Council concert series.

Curry grew up as a true fan of John Denver.  As a kid, playing the vinyl over and over and imbedding the lyrics of Denver’s hits into his mind at such an early age, Curry developed a rare understanding of one of his musical heroes.

Little did he know that as he grew into adulthood, his musical drive and energy would lead him back to his childhood hero. Not only was this direction coming into focus as a result of his knowledge, it was also because as he matured, his voice became more and more like the original’s. It’s now very difficult to tell the difference. He also had a head full of blonde hair, and the moment he put the round wire rim glasses on, the transformation was obvious.
