As promised, Holyoke’s National Night Out started off with a routine by the high school cheerleaders. To the delight and surprise of those in attendance, members of Holyoke Police Department, Phillips County Sheriff’s Office and Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department joined in with choreographed moves of their own. Kids, parents, police officers, firefighters — everyone was getting in on the fun at National Night Out last Tuesday, Aug. 7. Held at City Park, it was the first of what organizers hope will become an annual tradition in Holyoke. Throughout the evening, community members enjoyed a street dance, water balloon fights, games, food, a petting zoo, tours of emergency vehicles and more.
