    Dr. Patricia Coyman has joined the medical staff at Melissa Memorial Hospital and Family Practice of Holyoke.
    Former Paoli Postmaster Marilyn Miller closed the Paoli Post Office, which was located on the west side of her home, on Nov. 16. She retired earlier this year on July 31 after over 41 years of service as postmaster and over 46 total years of service to the USPS.
    Following the recent purchase of the bowling alley property just to the east of the courthouse, Phillips County has now bought the Absmeier property to the north of the bowling alley, reported commissioners at their Nov. 30 meeting.

    Elisa Sagehorn, a senior at HHS, is among four other individuals and two projects that will receive a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award on Jan. 17.
    Denise Swanson, manager for the Haxtun Conservation District, was named Outstanding Conservation District Employee of the Year at the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts’ annual meeting held recently in Colorado Springs. In addition, Haxtun Conservation District received the State Earth Team Volunteer Group Award for last summer’s Backyard Conservation Camp project.

    Exterior improvement on Holyoke businesses will be recognized soon with a new community award — the Pride and Progress Business Award. Sponsored by HR Inc. and the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce, with cooperation from the City of Holyoke, the award will be given on an awareness basis, not on a regularly scheduled timetable.
    December marks the first anniversary of the SHARE program in Holyoke. This past year has seen 1,700 participants buy 2,200 shares, resulting in 8,359 volunteer service hours in the community.

    After reviewing the report of the North Central Association made in February, the Re-1J Board of Education is following one of its major recommendations — the evaluation of the present high school plant. The board, in its 1968 budget, has earmarked funds for preliminary study of a new high school plant.
    The Holyoke Dragons, second-place winners in the 1967 Northeastern conference football race, had only one player chosen for All-Conference honors by league coaches at a meeting held last Thursday at Yuma. Marc Scott, who quarterbacked the Dragons to a 6-10 conference record, was the sole Dragon named to the mythical “top 22” roster.

    No outside decorative Christmas lighting will be made by the Town of Holyoke this year, it was decided by the town board at its meeting Monday night. This action was taken to comply with the request of the war production board.
    The traditional Christmas treats given to the children of the Holyoke community each holiday season by the Holyoke Fire Department and the Holyoke Commercial Club will probably be abandoned this year because of the inability to procure the candy for the event.
    Farm production goals of the 56 agricultural counties will be set at a meeting of county war board members in Denver when they get together Dec. 17 to formulate the plans for the farm production drive for the coming year.
    Two blackouts will be held in Holyoke in the next four nights. The first, scheduled for tonight, is a local test only. On Dec. 14, the blackout is the largest ever attempted in the world, it is claimed, and nine Midwestern states are included in the area to be blacked out.
    Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Norman reopened Norman’s Cafe on Monday. The restaurant had been closed for the past two months while Mr. Norman tried railroading in Nevada.
